Co-ordinate Transformations

The latest part in My computer-aided engineering course in Fás. 2 Rectangular cycles (G76) make up the basic shape. Mirror (G28) is used to do the ones on the top left corner. Rotate (G73) for the one at an angle on the top right and scale (G72) for the larger shape. 3 of the small holes were drilled normally and then that section (or label) was rotated to save lines in the program for drilling the final 3 holes.

Latest part

On the CNC machine today. This is the latest part. The 10 small holes are tapped M6 x 1.0.

Thursday, 28 October 2010

I have the cnc machine set up for a new program in my Fás course. I'll most likely put a photo here when the part is finished.
The other thing I want to mention is about my phone. It's a Sony Ericsson and has a function to upload pictures and blog directly to here from it. I'm thinking of upgrading to a new phone. But I'm considering Blackberry or Nokia because Sony Ericsson smart phones are a bit too expensive on vodafone prepay. So I'm wondering how easy/difficult it will be to blog directly to here if I don't go Sony Ericsson again. Yerra sure... we'll see when the time comes. I'll try to save for a new phone over the next few weeks anyway. That's the plan.

Ferrari, punishment! What punishment?!

I wouldn't have begrudged Ferrari that victory in Monza if they had been properly punished for their rule breaking in Germany. Team orders that get one driver to pull over and let another win are supposed to be banned. This is race fixing in my opinion. In any other sport race or match fixing is seen as corruption. Take horse racing for example. If you have 2 horses racing from the same stable they are supposed to race and jockeys can get fined for not trying to win the race. One jockey deliberately slowing to let another win is not allowed. This should be the case in formula 1. Every driver should have a relatively* equal chance to win a race. Unpredictable outcomes make for a more exciting race. That's what it should be, A RACE. It's not American wrestling. Fans of the SPORT of motor racing don't want to see a COREOGRAPHED PROCESSION. A suitable punishment would have been to disqualify Massa from the championship and dock all of Ferrari's constructors points up to the German Grand Prix. This would completely discourage drivers from pulling over and constructors from race fixing and favouritism. Mark Webber should be seen as a hero for his performance in Silverstone. "Not bad for a no.2". Notice how ex-Ferrari team principal is now F.I.A. president! Notice how they got a fine of around 1% of their annual budget! Formula 1 could be seen as corrupt to an outsider.

Kick in the...

Nads has a different meaning to women. For us men, 'nads is something we wouldn't want a kick in. For women the apostrophe is in a different place and has a different use

Coalesce into one

Why do some British feel the need to change the voting system? Sure, proportional representation is fairer in the long run. But it's easier to work in a smaller population like Ireland's. We in Ireland have had coalition Governments for the past 2 decades. Britain has it's first since the end of world war II. So their method consistently produces a majority. If it ain't broke...!

What if Cameron gets to No10 with the support of unionists in Northern Ireland? He said to Tommy Gorman on RTE News yesterday that he will respect the democratic decisions that lead to the Good Friday Agreement and intends to keep pushing forward with devolution of policing and Justice in Northern Ireland. This is good because it ensures civil rights for nationalists. But I hope he realises that his party, lead by John Major, helped to initiate the whole peace process when he and Albert Reynolds signed the Downing Street Declaration in the early 1990s. So he must keep with the tradition of civil and democratic rights for all, despite his supposed pacts with unionists.

USB connection

Got a little usb adapter for the memory card in my phone. So now I can upload videos to youtube from a computer instead of wasting credit on an mms message to my personal youtube email address for uploading videos. I was in Argos on Thursday coveting other stuff I could use if I could afford them. Then I came across the little usb device. When I checked the stock checker, just out of curiosity, it was cheaper than the price listed on the catalog so I got one. There was also an adapter in the pack to for using the mobile phone memory card the same way as a digital camera memory card, but I have one of those already. I better not lose that usb device because it's tiny but very handy. I was also able to cut and paste a naughty video from my mobile to my memory stick that I use for school so now people who might look at videos on my mobile can look as much as they want now because I've nothing to be ashamed of. I'll post a photo of the device when I have time.

Playing and fixing

Me playing my guitar before i fixed it recently(see previous blog). I still need to file down one fret to have it just right.

Wednesday, 31 March 2010

On my easter holidays from my engineering technology course. So I looked for a project to keep me occupied in case I'd get bored. Went upstairs and got my guitar and took it completely apart except for the electronics. Well, I unscrewed the pick-ups but left them attached at the wires. A combination of putting it back together and the maintenance section of the book I learned to play from(which I still have since circa Dec. '94) helped me to learn how to set up the guitar to make it more playable. I had it set up as close as I could get it but the action was a little bit low. I had the bridge set as good as I thought it could be so I raised the nut slightly. Next thing the intonation was so bad that the 12th fret harmonic on the treble E string was between the 11th and 12th frets. So I just put it to one side knowing I'd have to tackle it again today. Today I got it fairly close after adjusting the bridge and nut. I was playing a bit when the B string would go horribly out of tune when I'd bend it. It eventually snapped. Luckily I bought 2 sets yesterday. Put on the spare B string and the action was too low. Fiddled around with the bridge. The strings can be adjusted individually for height and scale length at the bridge, but the height is very tricky to get right. I had it fairly close but there was a buzz of the B and E strings. The neck is bowed a bit too much despite adjusting the truss rod yesterday, and the strings are hitting the highest frets. That's what you get for buying cheap guitars. Next to impossible to get it spot on and even changing a string can put the whole setup out of whack. I'll have another go tomorrow I suppose.

Open wound

I got new boots last thursday. Had to because my old shoes had holes worn in the heels so water used to get in from the wet ground. This is what wearing them in did to my right leg. Sore!

Keep fit

This is what i work out with. It's a cheap and easy way to get weights if you can't afford dumbells. Fitness dvd i got free in men's health magazine a few years ago, 2x5-litre water bottles, 2x2-litre, 2x1-litre and 2x1-pint old milk bottles all full of water. There's a tough abs workout on the dvd as well.
